The first function of the biopod is to act as an urn.
The cremains are placed into a water soluble bag and then securely tucked into the biopod. A 100' roll of natural sisal rope is used to lower the pod over the side of the boat. One end of the rope is fed into one of the two holes in the pod, then out the other. The pod is then lowered into the ocean by the rope and one end of the rope is released, 'letting go' of the pod to float down to the ocean floor. The rope is kept with you, not left the ocean.
Included with the biopod, you receive several accessories. A natural canvas tote bag is supplied to transport the pod to the harbor, then onto the boat. A ‘sharpie marker’ is included for family and friends to sign their names or write good-bye notes on the top surface of the pod. And, ten ‘Genesis biopod’ keepsake wristbands are included for guests and family.
The name and dates of the deceased are custom printed on the top of the biopod. Each pod is individually hand cast in Oregon – they are ‘made in America’.
The second function is to transform into a mini marine habitat.
After the first five minutes of resting on the ocean floor, the Genesis biopod begins the transformation from a cremation um into a marine habitat. The water soluble bag dissolves and the current begins to wash the cremains out of the biopod and onto the ocean floor leaving a habitat for a variety of ocean life. In a few days algae will begin growing on it and soon various forms of marine life will be living in the new shelter.
Once you decide you are ready to lower the pod into the ocean, the boat captain can give you the exact GPS coordinates so you’ll know right where it is located. In the future, should anyone else like to be placed at the same location, you can give those coordinates to your boat captain and the boat can be brought to that same spot.
The third funtion is to make this a simple process for the family.
I wanted to make it as easy for the family as possible to find one source to purchase a complete, and well thought out combination of products for the scattering of ashes at sea. This collection was developed to help families have a very satisfying and ‘feel good’ experience during this difficult time, and at the same time be offered at a very affordable price.
Knowing that the deceased will be surrounded by life for an eternity, leaves family and friends with a new and positive kind of feeling about saying farewell.
My dad would really like the thought of all that ocean life around him. I dedicated the first biopod to him -
